IEEE Cyprus Engineers who Grill Group
- Mission:
- The mission of the IEEE Cyprus Section – Engineers Who Grill Local Group is to foster community, creativity, and informal technical exchange among engineers and IEEE members through the shared interest of cooking, grilling, and food preparation. The group uses grilling and food as an engaging medium to explore engineering concepts such as heat transfer, control systems, sensors, materials, data-driven experimentation, and sustainability, while promoting professional networking, mentorship, and member well-being in a relaxed and inclusive environment.

- Main Activities:
- 1. Engineering-Themed Grilling Events Casual outdoor or indoor grilling meetups Discussion of heat control, temperature measurement, fuel efficiency, and materials Informal demonstrations (e.g., thermometers, airflow control, grill design) Social-first, with optional technical commentary 2. “Applied Engineering on the Grill” Sessions Short, light technical talks (10–20 minutes) embedded into social events, such as: Heat transfer basics for grilling Control systems analogies (feedback loops, PID vs. intuition) Sensors and data logging for cooking Power electronics, batteries, and IoT in cooking devices 3. Friendly Challenges & Experiments Steak or burger optimization challenges Repeatability experiments (same meat, different control strategies) Blind taste tests vs. measured data Energy efficiency or sustainability-themed challenges 4. Student & Young Professional Engagement Low-barrier entry events for students Mentorship conversations in an informal setting Collaboration with IEEE Student Branches “First grill” or “engineering basics through cooking” sessions 5. Industry & Community Interaction Visits or talks from local food-tech, appliance, or sensor companies Collaboration with other IEEE SIGs or societies Public-facing demonstrations during IEEE or Section events 6. Knowledge Sharing (Lightweight) Photo summaries and short technical reflections Informal notes or posts (not formal publications) Sharing of tools, setups, and lessons learned
