IEEE ColCaribe Entrepreneurship Group
- Mission:
- The proposed Entrepreneurship Local Group for the Colombian Caribbean section has the fundamental purpose of strengthening and consolidating a technological entrepreneurship ecosystem aligned with IEEE values and standards, promoting innovation, inter-institutional collaboration, and the development of solutions with real impact. Our initiative responds to the need to coordinate efforts among universities, educational institutions, the productive sector, and the community, positioning the section as a leader in the development of entrepreneurial talent with a global perspective. Our mission is to train, connect, and empower entrepreneurs at all stages of development, from high school students to professionals, through practical experiences that integrate technical knowledge, business skills, and strategic vision. Through a continuous and structured program—which includes entrepreneurship events, pitch competitions, mentoring with founders, innovation workshops, hackathons, and spaces for dialogue between academia and industry—we guarantee a sustainable, inclusive, and high-impact value proposition, in line with the international best practices promoted by IEEE. The group is conceived as a hub for talent and opportunities, facilitating interaction with incubators, accelerators, mentors, and investors, and promoting the effective transfer of knowledge between academia and the business sector. This integration not only strengthens the training of participants but also contributes to the economic and technological development of the Caribbean region, fostering the creation of startups and innovative solutions to local and global challenges. Furthermore, our strategic approach ensures compliance with the established requirements for the creation of local groups at the sectional level, through a clear organizational structure, a measurable and sustainable activity plan, and a differentiated value proposition that actively engages multiple student and professional branches. The diversity of stakeholders and levels of participation ensures operational continuity, progressive growth, and a cross-cutting impact within the IEEE community.
- Time Horizon:
- Two Years
- Main Activities:
- The IEEE Entrepreneurship ColCaribe Local Group will develop a structured, high-impact portfolio of activities aimed at training, connecting, and accelerating entrepreneurial talent in the region. Among its main activities are the organization of innovation hackathons, such as Innova Hack and Young Innova Hack, focused on solving real-world problems through technology. These hackathons involve high school, undergraduate, and young professional students, fostering hands-on learning, teamwork, and the generation of scalable business ideas and solutions. The group will also launch a project incubator designed to support participants from the initial ideation to the validation of their initiatives. This incubator will provide mentorship, follow-up, and access to key tools for startup development. It will allow participants to consolidate ideas generated at events and transform them into high-impact projects. In addition, innovation and entrepreneurship workshops will be held, focusing on developing skills such as design thinking, business models, market validation, pitching, and leadership, as well as talks with founders and industry experts, allowing participants to connect with real-world experiences from the entrepreneurial ecosystem. The group will also promote pitch competitions and demo days, where teams can present their solutions to judges, mentors, and potential partners, strengthening their communication skills and access to opportunities. These activities will be complemented by networking and collaboration spaces, facilitating connections between universities, companies, incubators, and accelerators. Finally, academia-industry innovation roundtables will be held, aimed at co-creating solutions to regional challenges, solidifying the group's position as a key player in integrating the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Caribbean region.
